92 Laser RS AWD (2017-2023)

This car has been through more setups than I would like to admit, but its been fun to build every time.

Stock 6-bolt engine, mild cams, bolt-on GT3071R, stock trans, stock exhaust, E85 @ ~24psi. Bought the car like this, drove it for a little bit and got bored.

Upgraded to the GTX3076R from the rooster, 3" Thermal R&D exhaust, FIC 1450's, E85 @ ~26-30psi. DSM graveyard engine spun the bearings.

Built a Forged 2.3 stroker with a built head, Kelford 272 cams, sealed catch can setup, everything else the same. E85 @ ~22psi. Was a blast to drive but only lasted 1000 miles and started knocking due to personal inexperience of installing stroker pistons (left the support rings for the oil rings out).

Went back to a stock-ish setup. Stock 6-bolt, stock 14b, 3" exhaust, 3.5" intake, Precision 880's. Learned the basics of tuning on ECMLink V3 with both 93 and E85, 14b wouldn't go past 18psi and got bored.

Put a built head on, Kelford 272's, Precision 6262, first manifold I ever made, 3" exhaust, FIC 1650's, E85 @ ~28psi. Ripped up top but was too laggy for me on the street.

Switched to a Justin Whitesell built bastard 20g turbo, 2G piston 1G rod engine, HKS 264/272 cams, redid the drivetrain with TRE trans (EVO3 1st, HD 3rd-4th), TRE stock t-case, TRE rear diff with EVO8 LSD, FIC 1250's, E85 @ ~22psi. Planned to rallycross the car, made 340whp and 300tq on the dyno, intake temps were at 220+ (stock intercooler life). Machine shop bored one of the pistons too big and the wrist pin started digging into the cylinder wall.

Upgraded to a Wiseco piston eagle rod 6-bolt (still in the car), built head, Kelford 272's, Justin Whitesell built HX40, T3 manifold (second one manifold I built), JMF Race intake manifold, LinkG4 ecu, FIC 2150's, E85 @ ~24psi. Was slowly working on the tune with the new engine and learning the program, but I was scared to turn up the timing and scared to break the trans. So, it got parted out.

Downgraded to a bolt-on BorgWarner s256, stock trans, side exit, E85 @ ~20psi. Turbo only lasted 5 pulls on a night of tuning before letting go.

Switched to an FP Red, custom made 3" widemouth style O2 housing, GSC S2 cams, E85 @ ~30psi. In the wise words of the tuners (twinztuning) "this thing rips for what it is". Broke a shift fork on a 2-3 shift the next night after getting it back.

Made the move to go auto trans. Did the rebuild myself with IPT rebuild kit, Translab shift kit, welded center diff, ForcedFour shift box. Ended up going with a ratchet shifter after wiring issues with shift box but blew the headgasket from never retuning after the swap.

Car sat for a couple months while I was back in Colorado, deciding what to do. Ended up putting the FP3065 along with FIC 2150's, new Prosport gauges (since half of the Autometer's never worked), Feal 441 coilovers, and topped it all off with the classic Rota Slipstreams and some MT ET streets.

Drove the car around for a week or two working out the bugs, got a safe E85 tune from TwinzTuned, and ended up selling the car to a friends relative. So its the end of a fun run with the laser.
